In order to lose weight and become healthier, you will need to plan a diet that you can stick to. Your diet plan is not a crash diet that you will give up after two weeks; it should be a LIFESTYLE change. Your diet changes must be reasonable or you will not be able to stick to them. That's why making a few subtle changes to your eating and exercise habits may help you develop a healthy diet plan that will, in turn, help you lose weight. Sometimes, the littlest things make the biggest difference.

Look at your diet patterns and decide if there are some nasty patterns that you can break. For instance, are there certain times of day when you just have to have a candy bar? Or are there certain times of day when you can't go without that bag of chips? Think about what you can reasonably give up or even better what can you replace with healthier food choices.

Here are some little habits that you might consider changing. The key is, you are breaking a BAD habit and instilling a GOOD habit in its place. This should be a PERMANENT change. Ask yourself, "Can I maintain this change for the rest of my life?"

Fast Food. Do you eat out everyday for lunch? Start to bring your lunch to work at least 4 days a week Even stopping by McDonald's twice a week can have a big impact on your diet. When you cook at home, you know what's going into your food.

Drinks. When you're thirsty, choose drinks that don't have any calories (water, tea, or diet soft drinks). If your drink choices do have have calories, they should have nutrients. Alcohol and soda both contain useless calories.

Snacks. Do you have a certain time of day that you just HAVE to snack? Fill your cupboard and refrigerator with low calorie snacks. Get rid of those high carbohydrate and sugary snacks.

Dinner. Maybe your hardest time of day is when you sit down to have a big meal. While you're cooking, eat a healthy snack - like a piece of fruit or a few low calorie crackers. Cook only what you will eat (no leftovers). If you make more than you're supposed to eat, serve from the stove, and put leftovers away before you sit down to eat. In other words, do not have extra food sitting in front of you on the table. Do you know that a meat serving should be only as big as a deck of cards?

Exercise. Exercise MUST be a part of your daily routines: When you're shopping, park your car far away from the store. Plan for this and do it EVERY time - especially in the cold weather! (The colder it is, the more calories you will burn.) Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Play a game of hide-and-seek with your kids. When you take the dog for a walk, make it a brisk walk. Can you find some way to sneak in some exercise everyday? Look carefully at your routines and plan something that you don't mind doing. If you like it, chances are you will continue to do it.

It is important that your child gets his or her nutrition early on, preferably from Grade 1. This is the most important time for brain development, as they start to learn new things and create new ideas all the time. Brain development revolves around getting the right amount of:

1) Glucose - Simply put, it is the blood sugar level. Glucose provides energy, and is vital in determining attention span. Lack of glucose can cause your kid to feel sleepy in class. The most important meal is breakfast, and glucose should be a part of every child's breakfast, to ensure that the blood sugar level is maintained through out the day's activities. Kids who usually skip breakfast tend to have a shorter attention span and difficulty remembering their lessons.

2) Vitamin B - Vitamin B helps to release the energy in glucose. Lack of Vitamin B can cause aggressiveness and depression. There are 12 types of essential Vitamin B, so it may be difficult to get all in a meal. Cereals are a good provider of Vitamin B.

3) Iron - Helps to transport oxygen in the blood system to each individual cell, including brain cells. Lack of iron results in anemia, which is common in children who don't get a balanced diet. Besides having less attention span, iron-anemic children are less motivated to participate in challenging tasks that stretch their imagination and ability. Having a good selection of red meat, tuna, chicken, or leafy vegetables like legumes and broccoli, can give your kid all the iron he or she needs.

4) Folic Acid - Important in the formation of red and white blood cells. Lack of folic acid results in your kid feeling tired, irritable and forgetful. Food sources like fresh vegetables and fruits are good sources of folic acid.

5) Zinc - Important to maintain communication between nerve cells and brain cells. Deficiencies in zinc can cause your kid to have difficulty solving academic problems, something the medical world calls cognitive impairment. Zinc in its natural form can be found in cereals and peanuts.

6) Vitamin A - An important nutrient for the nervous system of a fetus. Vitamin A is most commonly found in beta carotene, from dark leafy vegetables and orange or yellow fruits.

How to Ensure Your Kid Gets the Right Nutrition

A consisting of the right amount of cereals, meat, fish, vegetables, fiber-rich fruits, and lots of clean, unprocessed water will provide your child with the magic formula to succeed in school, both academically and in sports. Does that mean that the parents of ‘A' students go out shopping each day, cook their own food, and sit down with their kids on the breakfast table to ensure that they eat what they're supposed to?

Not necessarily. Parents are discovering the importance of nutritional supplements to balance out their diet, as well as their children's diet. Nutritional supplements provide the answer to the close the gap created by a busy lifestyle and the need for better health. Adults can take multivitamins and mineral supplements out of their own determination for better health. Children, on the other hand, especially the younger ones, need to be educated, tricked or forced to take nutritional supplements. Any way you do it, it has to be done for the better future of your child.

Kids generally detest swallowing any sort of multivitamin pill, especially if it's like really huge ones or if it tastes bad. Understandably for them, taste is more important than the benefit of the pill. Educating your kid is important in the long run, but younger children need to be introduced to supplements in a more subtle way. one good way is by giving them chewable supplements, which disguise the fact that they are supplements by giving a good taste and flavor. Kids are generally more receptive to taking chewables than regular pills.

Another trend today is taking liquid nutritional supplements. Liquid nutritional supplements go one step further than chewables by eliminating the need of pill forms. Liquid nutrition can be diluted and mixed into our drinks, cereals and whatever else you eat during the course of a day. Children today love taking liquid supplements that are mixed into their orange juice or other beverage. Even adults who hate taking pills are attracted to liquid multivitamin supplements. Liquid nutrition is also more readily and easily absorbed by the body.

Start Early to Determine Success

If you really want your kid to grow up smart and popular in school, you have to start early. Mothers should take Vitamin B supplements during their pregnancy months to ensure complete fetal growth. Even though nutritional supplements are generally not recommended to kids below 2 years, ensure that from that age on your children are introduced to taking chewable or liquid nutritional supplements.

Grade A students and kids who excel in school generally don't have anything special that your kid does not already have. The only difference is that they have parents who emphasize the benefits of good nutrition. Now that you know their secret, start today by analyzing your kid's eating habits and take action to change their life, and yours.

Menopause Symptoms Relief
Sunday, January 10, 2010, 04:21 AM - Women`s Health Reviews
Menopause is a natural occurrence in a woman's reproductive life. So why not treat it in a natural way? Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is the standard treatment for menopause among healthcare providers; however there remains considerable controversy about the benefits and risks associated with standard HRT drugs.

For the past several decades, conventional medicine has treated hot flashes and other menopausal discomforts with estrogen replacement therapy (ERT). But because ERT is contraindicated for women with a history of cancer, hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which combines estrogen with a synthetic progesterone, is often used instead. But many women don't want to take the potential increased risk of cancer associated with ERT, or they dislike the cyclical bleeding & significant side effects often caused by HRT.

Recent publicity concerning the health risks of synthetic hormone replacement therapy has led many women to seek more natural solutions. And with good reason. In areas of the world where soy and other estrogenic plants are part of the diet, breast cancer rates are much lower and menopausal symptoms are almost non-existent. Synthetic hormone replacement is not common because it is not needed.

Menozac is a botanical alternative medicine formulation which contains a blend of all natural herbal extracts developed to ease the transition and provide effective Menopause Symptoms Relief from the onset and duration of typical menopausal symptoms. Menozac has been developed as a natural alternative support product, formulated with the best-known combination of high-potency phytoestrogen botanicals which have a long empirical history of relieving menopausal symptoms, and supporting the body's hormonal balance.

Aging and Menopause
Sunday, January 10, 2010, 04:18 AM - Women`s Health Reviews
Women go through major physiological changes every 7 years.

This is known as the 7 year cycle in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The two most significant changes occur at around 14 years when menstruation begins and approximately 49 years when menstruation becomes less frequent and ceases.

Our bodies are a sea of qi (energy), blood and essence.
Essence is like a refined nectar of qi, blood and fluids that enable us to grow, reproduce and regenerate. A part of this essence has been transferred to us from our parents.

As we age our essence becomes consumed giving the dry withered, degenerative appearance. Blood carries essence and qi therefore much vital essence and nutrients can be lost in monthly periods.

A year before and after each 7 year cycle it is wise to put in extra effort to nourish your body.

The change is like a blueprint for the next 7 to 10 years. Therefore if you get very healthy and balanced through this time you lay a good foundation for the next few years.

'Signs' of our essence, fluids, blood and qi being consumed can be....

Excessive wrinkles
Sagging of skin tissue (such as under the upper arm, neck, face and legs )
Tiredness (weak voice)
Pallor (lacking a pink/reddish healthy glow)
Dryness of skin, hair and nails (brittle)
Dull eyes
Lacking passion for life
Long term memory loss
Greying of hair
Degenerating bones

Some people appear to have loads of energy, look bright though are withered on closer examination. These people constantly run on an empty tank or on their reserve energy, not from an abundant overflow.

Please note that the above sign's can obviously be a normal part of the aging process. They are though brought about quicker and more severely through unhealthy lifestyle habits such as the following.

Lack of drinking pure water and eating water rich foods such as fruit and lettuce as an example. (Remember our body is composed mainly of water). Excess cooked and refined foods, coffee and tea, lack of sleep, inadequate rest, over work and not enough play.

Stress from many areas. Inadequate nutrient intake, lack of deep breathing, exercise and sunshine. Excessive thinking (very draining particularly on the digestion). Poor eating habits that weaken digestion ( not chewing well and drinking with meals etc.). (It takes massive amounts of energy to digest food). Negative thought indulgence. Smoking, alcohol and drug use to name a few.

Some Positive Action you can take

Drink plenty of water (not with meals).Eat mainly fresh vital foods (such as whole grains, vegetables and fruit).

Take deep breaths as often as possible throughout the day.

Maintain good posture and smile regularly.

Doing physical exercise a few times a week (increases oxygen to the cells therefore increasing your energy level).

Be playful, go for what you want in life and get passionate about it.

Menopause is seen as consumption of the yin (essence and fluids) in Chinese medicine. The body becomes dry and then the dryness generates heat (there is the drying up, so to speak, of hormonal essence as well).

Any substances that cause dryness are best avoided. Cigarette smoke for example causes, much dryness of the lungs and stomach. Alcohol particularly wine and spirits, are very volatile and hot by nature and will generate heat in the body. So even one strong drink a day can throw the body out of balance causing excessive heat. Coffee is a diuretic, stimulant and hot by nature. Stress agitates us also causing heat.

Here we can see then that 2 coffees a day, a glass of wine of an evening and a little stress can generate much dryness in the body which leads to heat accumulation that agitates us, which leads to restless sleep which can further compound what began as a minor imbalance into a major one presenting many symptoms.

The specific yin and blood tonics in Harmony Womens Balancing Formula help to moisturise, nourish, harmonise and cool the body, though avoiding the substances and foods that are heating, helps a lot in the longer term.
